Pablo Rosales
City Final Record - 14:31.3
November 21st, 2009
On a brisk sunny morning on Saturday November 21st, 2009 senior PABLO ROSALES from San Pedro accomplished what no other runner ever has - he broke 14:40.0 in a City Final race on the Pierce 3-mile course. In this video Pablo delivers a master class on how to run Pierce..
This race was one of the fastest ever for a City Final. The team champions that day, Monroe, posted the 2nd best team-time in 25 years.. Pablo’s performance no doubt had something to do with the fast overall times. His explosive 1st mile literally pulled the other runners in his wake (check out the 1st 400m). And while the 1st mile was Impressive (a 5:10 pace) the 2nd and 3rd miles were even more so. The small gains Pablo made on the lead during the 2nd mile were a deception. Though it appeared that he was paying a price for an overly exuberant first mile with the strung-out line of runners chasing him still in striking distance. The reality is that he had pushed the pace hard on mile 2 and was setting up for an epic final mile.. When Pablo made his move on the final pass up Chalk Hill no one had the legs to go with him. And it’s in the final mile that he made up the majority of his 30+ second margin over the competition..
This video was giving to me 2 years ago by the late, great Bruce Thomson. It was contained on a CD in an obsolete format along with some other track video segments. As far as I know this video does not exist on YouTube or other social platforms.. Enjoy!
